It’s that time of year again- Christmas is coming and the pace is frantic. After-school chorales, the office Christmas party (if such a thing still exists in today’s economy), cookies to bake and gift exchanges to shop for. When’s a romance addicted reader able to sneak a moment in to read, never mind compile a list of books and other related goodies? What are your book related Christmas wishes? Other than more time to read or a housekeeper to clean up or cook meals so you can read in peace, that is. LOL
For the first time in several years I don’t have a list of titles or book related gadgets. Just typing that surprises me. I almost always have a list of wishes tucked in my purse no matter what time of year it is. This year, though, my list of ‘reader’s wishes’ is a little different.
1. I wish for more time for authors to write, free of the dreaded writer’s block, free of a crackberry addiction, free of financial and/or editorial pressures to ‘hurry up’, free of teh eebil lure of teh internets (because teh internets stop them from writing so much!). More than anything I hope that romance writers are financially and creatively able and willing to continue to write the books we all love to shop for and buy.
2. I wish for a world free of intellectual piracy so that all creative people can get paid for their creations and thus keep writing books (or songs or whatever) so that I can help support the American economy by buying them.
3. I wish for some type of middle of the road solution to DRM issues for e-readers. A solution that, as much as possible, could satisfy the parties involved: readers, authors & publishers. I would love to buy an e-reader, but because of the problems involved I plan to wait. Just think all the new books I could add to my library..but I digress…
4. I wish that everyone, everywhere could learn to read so that they too can enjoy the wondrous, amazing world that is books. It is a scandalous, embarrassing shame that so many people in this world are illiterate, a large majority of them girls and women.
Those are my Christmas wishes this year. What are yours? Are you asking for an e-reader? Are you compiling lists of authors and titles? Are you donating your gift exchange money to a charity? Do you not celebrate Christmas and just wish the season was over already?
Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and Habari Gani to those of you who celebrate Kwanzaa

I think an e-reader would be great for Christmas. Although books are good too. My wish lists are usually books, candles or bath product related. Have a wonderful and safe holiday season.
