  1. Melissa Says:

Hi Sarah and welcome to AR. My favorite genres are historical and chick lit. Now, I am an aspiring romance writer and I, myself, am working on a Native American story. Although I’ve never read any of your books..yet *G* I’m glad you don’t stick to stereotypes. Believe me when I say I definitely know the meaning of that word. I have a mohawk and piercings and when people first look at me they think DRUG ADDICT. Absolutely not! So, I know how frustrating that situation can be. I love historical romances because they take me to places I’ve been and places I haven’t been. I like chick lit stories because often times they’re written in the first person, the heroine is placed in an awkward situation and they’re funny. I love a good laugh. Historical’s will always be my fav. though. I would love to read one of your books to get a feel for a non stereotypical western.

  2. Stephanie Says:

I honestly have to say all genres of romance has recently gotten my attention thru a friend that insisted I read one of her books. For her I’d have to say paranormal holds a special place in my heart. (Especailly if its about a Were!!)

But once I got started looking at sites for other books and authors all the genres caught my interests, as long as the summeries peeked my interests and the relationship in the book itself has that special something when it comes to romance and relationships, I’m more then open to give it a try! Be it westerns like your’s (especially like Promises Prevail which drew me to it even before it was out) and now especially your paranomal (which I can’t wait to read!), or time travel of anytime, historical or futuristic, or even just some chic lit I love to read them all!!

  3. Rebecca Says:

My favorite is historical westerns. Not really sure what draws me, but I think it is the old time cowboys. Although this is my favorite I like most genres. I am just not becoming interested in the paranormal ones.

  4. Crystal Says:

My favorite genres are historical and paranomal. I enjoy historical because they take the reader to a different time and place. I am not sure what draws me to the paranormals.

  5. Angie Says:

I wish I could say I have a true favorite! My favorite is usually whatever genre I am reading at the time….and I read it all. The most I can say is, sometimes I may not be in the mood for a historical and I’ll read only contemporary or western.
I am always in the mood for paranormal. So I guess my favorite genre is mood-activated!

  6. Melissa Says:

    Where’s Sarah? *G*

  7. Sarah McCarty Says:

I’m Here! I had a conference last weekend and then had to reclaim my house.

I think it’s real interesting that we perceive genres the way we perceive people. Never really thought of that until I Melissa mentioned it. I for one am short and plump and always smiling. People look at me and see “sweet push over.” Couldn’t be further from the truth, but thats’ what they think.

Like the rest of y’all, I’m also a bit of a gerne hopping soul. I do tend not to enjoy true Sci fi so much because I don’t like the world building, ( and it takes coaxing to get me to try a straight sci fi) but I will pretty much read anything that grabs my attention. I just flat out love to read. Though Western historicals are my favorite and I will try any new author in that genre without even reading the middle to see if I like their style. I live on hope when it comes to Western Historicals.

  8. Melissa Says:

Hellooooooo Sarah! Glad to “see” you. Hope you had a great time at the conference. Are you going to Daytona next year?

I think it’s sad that people are so quick to judge.

  9. Sarah McCarty Says:

I had a very good time at the conference. I’m not planning at this time on going to Daytona next year. I am planning on going to Lori Fosters get together in Ohio next year and between that, my own vacation and RWA national, I’m out of time for the spring/summer time.

  10. Melissa Says:

Bummer. I’m planning to attend the conference in Daytona. I was hoping we could meet. Lori Fosters’s get together in Ohio? Do tell. Yea, the RWA national is in GA right? I’d like to make that as well but I don’t think I can swing it.

  11. Amy S Says:

Romantic suspense is one of my favorite genres. I like it because it has romance with some suspense in it. I also like historical romances. I love reading about different times.

  12. Melissa Says:

Sarah has disappeared again. Should we tie her up so she can’t leave? *BG*

  13. Sarah McCarty Says:

I swear, first Bad Barb threatens to lock me in a closet, my readers in my yahoo group to shackle me to the desk and now y’all are propsing to tie me up! I think I feel a complex coming on. *BG*

Actually, I have no excuse. I was writing and lost track of time. I’m only half in this world when I’m wriitng add that to the fact I ran all over creation last week and was rarely in and I (hanging head in shame) neglected you all. I leave my mail program on which means I’m always pretty prompt on my yahoo group or emails, but anything else fades off to the never land the get to list. Hubby realized this weekend that im in writing mode as I didn’t cook a single meal last week and he and girl child were forced to scavenge at night. As a result, he cooked and froze a bunch of meals for this week. Do love a man who just solves a problme rather than whines about it. Asa, from Promises Liinger is totally my hubby’s personality and speech pattern.

Now onto Romantic Suspense. I love romantic suspense as long as the romance stays the predominate element. When the suspense over takes the romance, I tend to lose interest for a couple reasons. The book normally shifts to plot driven when that happens and as iI can usually figure out the plot by chapter four, I’m not overly motivated to keep reading and two, I’m in the book for the characters and having them take second place means my interest steps back, too. There is absolutely nothing wrong with plot driven books. There are lots of wonderful ones out there that are on tons of people’s keeper shelves, it’s just my personal preference in reading is books where the characters are center stage. I like to be dragged along with them and get to experience their reactions to what’s happening in the book vicariously. If I love the characters, I’ll keep reading even if I’ve figured out the plot because I want the thrill of how they experience things. Does that make sense?

  14. Angie Says:

Sarah, do we have some bondage issues here???? :0)

Your DH sounds wonderful! Since I work outside the home and commute 65 miles
total every day, most days my husband has dinner on the table when I get home. I guess I’ll keep him.

I understand what you are saying about romantic suspense. The point you make about figuring out the plot before the end of the book is one I have often wondered about. I mean, if you develop stories for a living, you would be more inclined to analyze the direction in which the characters are going, where the majority of readers just don’t think in those terms. Would you call it an occupational hazard??

  15. Melissa Says:

It makes perfect sense. And, in this case writing “PREVAILS”. *G*

LOL! on the bondage issues, Angie.

  16. Sarah McCarty Says:

Yes, I do think there are bondage issues. My aversion and y’alls liking. *G*

Wow Angie! That’s a long commute. Nice of hubby to step in. Defintiely a keeper.

Melissa, I got the hint. ;-) You do realize I’m not the one doing the picking, right?

I’ve always been analytical. It doesn’t usually effect my enjoymnet of the story, but again, only if they are character driven. You are right though. I am a very picky reader and that is because the internal editor never turns off.

Oh, and BTW, I have decided to go to RT!!!!!

  17. Melissa Says:

LOL! C’mon Sarah. Remember that time in college with the swing and the hand….nevermind.

Pick schmick, Sarah. Send on your own. :-)

    RT where?

  18. Sarah McCarty Says:

I’ve decided to go to the Romantic TImes Convention in Daytona Beach next Spring.

Sarah, having no memory of a swing, a hand, or heck, or even college.

  19. Melissa Says:

YAY! Sarah, I look forward to meeting you.

OK, don’t be coy. How bout that time with the whip!? ROFLMAO!

Read my goodbye speech above this post please. Byeeeeeee Sarah!
