  1. Cheryl Says:

I like alpha heroes in books. In real-life, I’m not sure I could live with an alpha unless he had at least a smidgen of beta in him.

  2. Danny Says:

I love Alpha heroes in the books that I read, but I don’t think that I could live with one in real life.

  3. kim h Says:

    i like all heroes

  4. Pat L. Says:

    I agree with Cheryl 100%.

  5. Kathleen Says:

Yep, an alpha hero w/ a little bit of beta mixed in.

  6. Melissa Says:

alpha getting in touch with his inner beta

  7. Robyn Says:

Alpha in touch with his inner beta. I need a bit of both.

  8. Jennifer Y Says:

I like all types of heroes…I don’t really have a preference for one over the other.

However, in real life I don’t know if I could handle an Alpha…maybe one that is getting in touch with his inner beta, but I don’t know. A nice combo would be nice.

  9. Angie Says:

One of my best friends is a major alpha male and we get along just fine because I tease him unmercifully about it. When he is overbearing or on testosterone overload (as I call it!) one smart-a** comment from me is usually all it takes for him to mellow. But I am very much attracted to alpha heros as long as they don’t take themselves too seriously. So, I guess a little beta thrown in for good measure is nice! :-P

  10. Jen Says:

I think this was one of my favorite parts of writing this book. Historicals are the perfect alpha format and combining it with a contemporary story also gave room for that inner beta to shine through. And, I’m pretty sure I’d wind up killing a true alpha if I had to live with him and he wasn’t tempered by some beta.

  11. Cherie Japp Says:

Alpha getting in touch with his beta.

  12. Melissa Says:

Jen, I agree. Too much testosterone is reason enough for a good butt wuppin’. Think that would hold up in court? HA!

  13. Danny Says:

Yeah real life Alphas would soon be an endangered species.

  14. Crystal Says:

alpha getting in touch with his inner beta

  15. Jen Says:

What about the metrosexual? Never mind. Beta getting in touch with his ultra inner beta. Forget it. Nice to live next door to but not starring front and center in a romance.

  16. Laurie G Says:

Alpha- leader, independent ,go getter definitely a must to have an aggressive guy if you go back in time!!

  17. Angie Says:

What about the metrosexual? Nice to live next door to but not starring front and center in a romance.

IDK, Jen…Think about Mr. Big from Sex and the City. He was kinda metro and he sure was front and center in a lot of my…weeeelll, never mind!

  18. Melissa Says:

Love that word “metrosexual”. Straight guy with taste. Did ya’ll see the movie “Guesswho”? LOL!

  19. Kathleen Says:

I agree w/ ya Jen…he can live next door.

  20. Zara Says:

All of the above please! I love them all! I might have a slight inclination towards alphas, but alphas getting in touch with his inner betas can be pretty amazing. That is kind of the best of both worlds I suppose. Even with my slight preference, I have read many books with betas that I just fell in love with. Yep, love em’ all!

    Hugs, Zara

  21. Melissa Says:

    Thanks for the hugs, Zara.

  22. KimW Says:

Alpha or alpha getting in touch with his inner beta is my choice.

  23. Sandy Says:

I have a soft spot for all heroes. I do love alphas the best, but as along as a hero realizes what he has in his heroine and he evolves with his love for her, he’s got my heart.

  24. Melissa Says:

Och! Sandy, ah ‘ave a soft spot for all hero’s tae. It’s between ma…nevermind. *g* Just havin’ fun and tryin’ tae talk wie my blog pals.

  25. Jen Says:

Okay, I’d make the metrosexual exception for Mr. Big. ;)

Melissa, I should’ve had you reading my dialogue. Actully, now I’m nervous that you’re going to hate it but we (me and my editor) decided to minimize dialect for readability. I think it works. I hope so. W

  26. Angie Says:

    Jen,
To be honest, it can be rather distracting to read dialects. Most times I’d rather imagine the brogue than to read it, anyway. I’m sure yours works just fine!!

  27. Jennifer Y Says:

I like that you minimized the dialect! Made it easier to read!

  28. Melissa Says:

No, Jen. I’m not going to hate it. I just like to practice writing brogue when talking about Scotland, Scotsmen, etc. I e-mail back and forth with friends in Scotland all the time and write brogue. Just having fun in here. It’s hard for some to read brogue if they don’t understand it. I like to read books where authors use it or they don’t.
