  1. Melissa Says:

    Hi Sasha! Welcome to AR!
Sure, I like to read stories set in certain places. However, since I read books by the millions *g* I don’t care where it’s set as long as the description is accurate. And I want details. Lots of details.

  2. Sasha Says:

    Hi Melissa!
Thanks for the welcome. It’s funny, I’m mostly like you , I don’t care where the stories I read are set, (except the Stephanie Plum onesLOL). And mostly when I write it’s nto a big deal either. But in the case of BOUND, I found it was essential to the story to give that “small town” feel, and the only small towns I personally have experience in are in BC.

I often think about doing a road trip across North America though because I think I’d love all the small towns I could find.

  3. kim h Says:

those are nice places. i love montreal canada

  4. Kathleen Says:

I don’t think it matters where a story is set as long as I get a clear discription of where the setting is and it has to have a great story. There has to be a balance between telling enough details and moving on with the story…no detail overload :)
Although, I am partial to small town settings so I think that I will really like BOUND!

  5. Melissa Says:

You’re welcome, Sasha. I’d love to read BOUND and the cover is fantastic! I think you should take that road trip. You’d have so much fun. And you’d see so many great things. Learn all kinds of history. Find all kinds of inspiration!

  6. Kathleen Says:

Oh, and welcome Sasha!! You have great questions…and I like the pictures who included!

  7. Danny Says:

I especially love to read books that take place in area that I personally know, but I also love to discover new places by reading book that takes place there. I wish there would be more books set in Canada.

  8. Christa Runge Says:

I really don’t care where the setting of the book is as long as there is a good description of them. This week through books I traveled to New York, North Carolina, Texas, California, Lake Tahoe and now I’m in Montana. I do like finding books with a Canadian setting, I think that is why I like Judith Bowen’s Men of Glory books.
Hi, I came over from Bailey’s site (the queen of promos)

  9. Angie Says:

    Hi Sasha!
I had no idea that editors really asked Canadian writers to set their stories in the US to appeal to Americans. Wow! That’s just crazy!
I already know what its like in America. I want to know what it feels like to live in a villa in Tuscany or a small village in Wales or the Scottish highlands, or anywhere new and different!
Thats why I love to read about other countries as much (or more) than I enjoy reading about different geographical areas in the US. We need to celebrate our diversity! :P

  10. Sasha Says:

Kim~ I’ve never been to Montreal, but I hear it’s beautiful!

Kathleen, If you like small town settings, I think you will enjoy BOUND. I tried very hard to get the “feel” without overdoignthe details and description.

Melissa~ I’m a travelling fool so once I get my writing and contracts and dates and such in a smooth order I think I will make the trip. *grin*

Danny, my story THE CRIB, in the PURE SEX anthology that was released this month is also set in Canada. In Edmonton specifically as that’s where I live right now, and my Oct release from Kensington in THE COP anthology is set in Vancouver. (That one is titled SEX AS A WEAPON). While I have livedin central and as far east as Ontario, I’m pretty much an Alberta and BC girl, and I love to write about the cities I’m familiar with. I think Canada is amazing and I’m so glad to be able to write the locations and settings I love.

  11. Sasha Says:

Hi Christa!! (I love Bailey! *grin*) I also Love the GLORY series from Judith Bowen. I met her at my very first writers conference in Vancouver a couple of years ago and she is a wonderful woman. Her next series (whihc she was plannig at the time) takes place in the Okanagan as well….I wonder what happened to that one?

ANgie. Yes, and it still happens! I have a friend that just a couple of months ago was asked to change her story from Vancouver to Seattle. I think it depends onthe editor, and I am blessed that both of my editors give me a lot of freedom.

ANd I agree, that reading about foreign settings is a wonderful way to learn. I’d always wanted to go Ireland because I had famiy there (and I have been) but because of romance novels I also had to visit Scotland. I was dieing to HEAR a brogue LOL .

  12. Melissa Says:

Sasha, when you make the trip you must come see Newport, RI. And ME of course. :-)

  13. Cherie Japp Says:

I love to read books set in exotic settings but I will read other settings as well as long as the story sounds interesting. Even books that are not in settings I find exciting will capture my interest if the story sounds intriguing.

  14. Melissa Says:

Where’s Sasha? She must be tied up. Hee.

  15. Melissa Says:

Maaaaaaaan! I thought BOUND was an e-book. But I saw it yesterday and it’s a paperback! I’m bummed ’cause I didn’t have any $ to buy it. :-(

  16. Kathleen Says:

Melissa, are you the same Melissa that just won on HelenKay Dimon’s Post? B/c if you are, now you have a gift card to go buy it!!! Congratulations!!!! You can probably get even a few more books :)

  17. Crystal Says:

It doesn’t matter to me where a book is set if I can visualize the setting. I like reading a variety of settings.

  18. Sasha Says:

Melissa. LOl I was tied up!! Sorry everyone. I got wrapped uop inmy very frist book launch party and signing. LOL

It was wonderful… I felt like a star! LOl I’m back though so sorry for the lapse. :)

  19. Sasha Says:

  20. Melissa Says:

Wrapped, tied, BOUND. What’s the diff.? I told ya she was tied up folks. Hee.
Glad you had a good time at the launch party and signing. Wish I could have been there.
With the price of books these days, my card won’t buy me many. But, I’m grateful that I won it. Things are just so messed up in my life now.

  21. Linda Says:

    Hello Sasha,

Welcome to AR *Winks* Hope you are having a wonderful time here.

To me it doesn’t matter where the story takes place. As long as it has a good story line to it and grabs my attention I will read it. I love a good story that grabs my attention where I don’t want to take a break from the book *G*
