There was a book from an author I had read and enjoyed before and the heroine was so perfect; thin, beautiful, smart and loved young children and animals. Then all the characters through the book made mention of her amazing perfection and not in a sarcastic way that might have put the heroine in focus. Someone was constantly talking about how this woman was so beautiful and so smart and so kind. It was distracting and not very realistic since I have never met such a person.
Oh yes, I have. That particular book had the heroine falling in love with the (so-called) hero despite (or because of) the fact he almost-rapes her, then leaves her and then accuses her of having affairs with other men. And all along they’re childhood friends.
This was absolutely beyond me! A real wall-banger if I ever had the misfortunte to read one. The fact that this book was from a well-known author whose books *were* on my automatic To-buy list, was a real disappointment.
Yes, the man and woman are in love but circumstances break them apart, sometimes by a continent or two; years later they find each other just out of the blue and get together(both had been married and lost their partners).
No, but I turn off tv shows and movies all the time because of that. Swordfish’s bus scene comes to mind immediately and when Days of our Lives started doing that whole Marlena is the devil series, I never looked back after that. lol But, I don’t find that to be the case in novels so much.
I guess one time I tried to picture the position of one of the hero while they made love, because it seemed like he’d have to be a contortionist, barbie doll or double jointed in every single joint to do the thing that was described during the love scene. That made me laugh, but I figured it was probably just my sick sense of humor and skewed point of view. The writer probably had it write, it’s just my brain decided to take a detour into the realm of impossibility, maybe. lol
Yes, I remember a book by a favorite author of mine that disgusted me. The guy treated her so cruely. He seduces her and relieves her of her virginity and then blames her fo what happened. She leaves him but then comes back about a month or two later to try and tell him she is pregnant. He won’t listen so he never finds out about the baby. He yells at her and calls her names so she leaves and gets involved in a car accident and loses the baby. He does eventually find out about the baby and is filled with remorse. Talk about a depressing soap opera. I can’t believe the two of them actually get together in the end.
That’s for sure Karen T. I was pretty disappointed by this books since it was by one of my favorite authors. Fortunately, her later releases did not get that extreme or depressing.
LOL! You are good Helen Kay! It was a Diana Palmer book. I don’t remember the name of it but it was a disappointment at the time. I love alpha males but I agree this one went over the line.

I am sure there must be something I have read - will have to think on it. Nothing comes to mind.

Boy, I’m having trouble with this question! Books were people go to unbelievable extremes to extract revenge and live to tell about it!

Sounds like a not so great book, Cherie. Boy he must have really redeemed himself for her to get back with him.

“…he almost-rapes her, then leaves her and then accuses her of having affairs with other men.” Sanjay - ack!!! What a ridiculous book.
Cherie - I swear that sounds like a Diana Palmer book I read once. I’m all for alpha males but, good grief, there’s alpha and then there’s abusive.
