I agree w/ the ladies here…smart, sexy..but doesn’t necessarily flaunt it, sense of humor, kind, compassionate, understanding, strong, and hardworking. That is not too much to ask…right??!!
I have to agree with everyone else: smart, sexy (but not full of himself), sense of humor, compassionate (but not wimpy), nice build (from hard work, not lifting weights in a gym)
He must be honest and faithful, kind to small children and animals. I don’t mind if he doesn’t LOVE animals, but he must be the type to never harm one. He must love children.
He has to have integrity, like Pamela said. He has to be honest, compassionate, generous and intelligent. He has to be self-confident but not arrogant. He should put his woman’s well-being above his own. And if he puts the toilet seat down and doesn’t fart, that’s a plus! LOL
Well now, this now brings to mind “Save the Cheerleader. Save the World.”
Ok, only those obsessed with the new TV show “Heroes” can fully appreciate what that means.
More seriously, in novels, I want the hero to be understandable. I want to be able to connect to the hero on some level. I like strong heroes, helplessly arrogant (yes, I love arrogant heroes, lol), but not jerks. Mostly, he just needs to complement the heroine perfectly.
Patrice’s Cowboys — why are they my favorites you might ask?
Nobody does heroes you absolutely fall in love with like Patrice’s Cowboys - they are big, hunky, strong, smart, with great bodies, big hearts, tough but kind, lovable - you’ll melt for them. They are honest, fun, have sex on the brain but treat their lady like a queen. This is my fantasy - I listen to country music and think about Patrice’s cowboys!
Haven’t read them yet?? I dare you!! You’ll LOVE cowboys for sure.
Sexy, intelligent, honest, good sense of humor, a code of honor, loyalty, takes responsiblity for his actions…we expect that and so much more from our heroes!
Dorothy, yey for you that your hubby has all those attributes. My man has most of them, too, though not all at once.
Katie, I totally got the “Save the Cheerleader” comment. LOL! Yep, I’m hooked on HEROES, LOST and Battlestar!
Pat L, I’ll take the tight buns and six pack, too! *g*
Debbie, Thanks so much for the kudos on my cowboys! I’m thrilled you enjoy them so much.
Well, everyone make a hero for his sense of gooodness
I believe a hero is about opportunity and courage.
My special kind is those who are hard-alpha-yummy men in an unusual situation, who react and think later.
I like a bad boy with a good but very hidden heart, who have maddening-to-the-point-of-murder-defects (hey I love an arrogant guy), but who make the right thing in the right moment (even if that kills him)
How else could you appreciate the real stuff?
Oh and don“t forget (anyway I just a poor mortal), he need a body to die for, a wicked smile and have to know how to push my buttons!
Patrice, I used to be hooked on LOST, but I missed about 3 episodes, and stopped watching after that because too much had happened in those episodes. Hubby and I are going to rent the DVDs one day and just watch it all!
Heroes: Oh, my new passion. This week’s episode should be SO good!
Someone who does what needs to be done and does it with integrity. Being tall, dark, handsome and having a great personality at the same time doesn’t hurt.
Even in real life and not just in romance novel heroes, I’m a sucker for CONFIDENCE! Enough confidence in a man, that makes him appear arrogant and indifferent, and perhaps invites the dislike of others at first glance, will turn my head and make me weak in the knees. I love men who are strong and intimidating outwardly, honorable and loyal inwardly. You know the ones who’ll flirt with anything in a skirt, but know where to draw the line?! The ones who guard their hearts so well, but on the rare occasion they offer them to a woman, you are reminded of why life is so very beautiful after all?!
Well, physically I like my heroes to be tall, dark and hopefully handsome with a hard bod and a great butt! So stereotypical, I know but I like my men dark.
I want him to have integrity, intelligence, sensitivity, confidence, good sense of humor but also be an alpha male. Arrogance is annoying but can also be sexy if portrayed in the right way.
Several of you ladies have talked about alpha and arrogance being sexy…I couldn’t agree more as long as it’s portrayed in the right light. My cowboys are very alpha…I think that’s why I like writing them so much! As for the arrogance thing…I kind of think of it as the heroes exuding strong self-assurance in every aspect of their lives. And for the first time…they’re left kind of floundering with the heroine. While my heroines have been know to call ‘em like she see ‘em at times…“that arrogant, pigheaded, stubborn man!” (LOL!), I always pair my alpha hero with a heroine who won’t be anyone’s doormat. She’s strong and knows how to give that alpha man a run for his money! Ahem…sparks flying anyone? *g*
Kathleen, I hope you enjoy my cowboys! I’ve had a ton of fun discussing cowboys and sexy alpha heroes with you ladies. Thanks so much for all your comments!

sexy, kind and knows how to treat a lady. is up for anything and knows how to stand up for himself
October 16th, 2006 at 6:29 pm
Intelligent, passionate, compassionate, alpha, and has a sense of humor.
October 16th, 2006 at 9:11 pm
Smart, sexy and sense of humor, definitely. A cool head, able to think on his feet, maybe more of a beta, I guess, than a full alpha personality.

The sexy part is an aspect that will obviously capture my attention, but intelligence and a sense of humor is what keeps it.

Intelligent, compassionate, well-build and alpha with a bit of a beta
October 17th, 2006 at 2:19 pm
Sense of humor, kindness for everyone, more of
a Beta than Alpha works for me. A genuine person
to the core and not ’show-offish’.

A hero must have integrity. He has to do the right thing, even when it’s not the easy thing.

A sense of humor, is sympathetic to others, takes responsibility for his actions and pays attention to what the heroine is telling him.

My Husband! He has everything that has been said above about heroes, that is what I found in my Hero!
October 18th, 2006 at 10:02 pm
Sexy and Humorous are way up there with intelligence and some kind of integrity.
October 18th, 2006 at 10:33 pm
Being kind, loving and a having a good sense of humor. Being handsome, having tight buns, a six pack doesnt hurt either. LOL.

For me a hero puts his life on the line without fear of the harm that could come his way. He thinks of others… first, second and third.
Attributes: concern for others, loyalty and honor
October 19th, 2006 at 8:29 am
A code of honor and willingness to meet adversity. To recognize the tough road ahead and travel on anyway.
October 19th, 2006 at 8:32 am
Smart, sexy, a sense of humor, honor

A man who is comfortable in his own skin; is kind, caring and loving and has overcome obstacles to become the wonderful man that he is.

Katie, Save the Cheerleader, Save the World! hehe Love that show!
Karen, the “comfortable in his own skin” is very important to me too.
