Question #2
How do you feel about genuine historical characters (or, in contemporary novels, currently famous people) making an appearance in fiction? Does it add to the story for you, or does it take attention away from the main action?

Generally, its adds to the story for me because I’m rather curious so I would totally go google the historical characters and actually learn something.

I like it because it makes the story seem more real.

I like it when a fictional character that I know is involved in a book. It usually gives you more insight on the person.

It usually adds to the story for me as long as it seems as though it fits into the story. If the person’s behavior doesn’t make sense or seems contrived then it could pull me out of the story.

It adds to the story especially in historicals I think. It puts you in the time frame and if you know history it can add to your knowledge. Bertrice Small is another author that combines real and fictional characters that bring them to life.

I wouldn’t want currently famous people in fiction, I don’t think. Bring on the new characters for me.
I think I feel the same about genuine historical characters but I am the odd one out according to the other responses so don’t let me stop anyone. LOL.

I think I am the only one here that doesn’t care much for genuine historical characters *lol*. Don’t know about contemporary ones, I think I haven’t read a romance with any .
