One year my DH made me a Valentine’s card. And I don’t mean one printed off the computer. I mean a contruction paper, paper lace doiley, glitter and glue card! We didn’t have much money to spend on frivolities back then and it meant the world to me that he did that. It was the best card he ever gave me because it came from his heart.
My dh isn’t into Valentine’s in a big way so when he gave me a beautiful card that he had made on the computer I was floored. I love the white bear who holds 3 Mylar balloons in his hand and it says’I Love You’ on each of the balloons. These were surprises and so for me, they were romantic.
It doesn’t take much to make me happy. Just knowing that he was thinking about me whether it is jewelry, dinner, flowers, movie, candy or just I love you.
It’s the thought and the effort, isn’t it? And when it is unexpected and at odds with the man’s unusual mode of operation, then it makes the thought and effort even more special. (But a little (or a lot of) chocolate, a meal, some lovely flowers, and some bling doesn’t go any harm either )
Any gift that my husband takes the time to pick out for me is great. He always tries to give me something that he thinks I will like and he puts lots of thought into picking the gift.
My ideal Valentine’s Day gift is being snowed in with my fiance like we were this year. It was so nice to just relax and just have time to be with each other. I told him not to bother getting me anything and I meant it! Well low and behold he went out in this horrible snowstorm and came home with a HUGE I love you Balloon, chocolate truffles, a dozen gorgeous red roses in a vase, and a card! Major brownie points for him!
The perfect Valentine’s gift would be based on two elements, company and atmosphere. So I’d say anyplace Mr. Right picks for dinner or even a walk someplace romantic would work out just great as long as he is Mr. Right.
Company and atmosphere. I love that answer, Mona, and that combination. Well said. And Rachael, that is some man you have there. I think you should keep him.
Thanks everyone for participating in the discussion. I’ve loved reading all your comments and ideas on the perfect valentine’s (or anytime romantic) gift.

For practical items…flowers, choc. covered strawberries, dinner and maybe some jewelry.
Impractical, a cabin in the woods where we can escape anytime we want to

It’s not the actual present just the fact that he thought to get something that I appreciate.

When the kids were young it was just getting out for a night by ourselves, now we’re content to put on some music, relax, talk and get together.
