I enjoy connected stories and one of my all-time favorites was several stories by Linda Howard: Midnight Rainbow, Diamond Bay, White Lies, and lastly Heartbreaker. (hope I got all of the titles correct.
Oh I loved Heartbreaker and White Lies too! Wonderful books! And I do believe you got all the titles right. Linda Howard is a master at sequels and connected books. She’s had several of my all time favorites!
I like connected stories! Some of my favorites are Eve Dallas series by J.D. Robb and Karen Whiddon’s series about shapeshifters who can turn into wolves.
I love connected stories. Some of my all time favorites are SEP’s Star’s books and Carly Phillips, Hot Zone books. I love to be able to follow through with a character even after their “story” has ended.
Oh yeah, Minna. J.D. Robb’s books are all connected with Eve and Roarke. Nora Roberts is the premier connected books author. She’s the master.
Hey, Patty L.! Yes, SEP has been writing connected books for awhile, but I’ve heard her say she wants to go in other directions now. Too bad. And yeah Carly Phillips has done several series. Love them! Love Carly! I’m with you about wanting a good story to go on so I can find out what happens to that character next! That’s why I write connected stories too.
I’m a connected story fan too and I’ve really enjoyed the Night Guardian series. I’ve been amazed at the level of detail about Navaho culture and the geography of the land that you’ve used in the books. Obviously you did your research.
I just read a new book that’s the first of 3 connected books — Raintree: Inferno by Linda Howard. Can’t wait for the other books. I haven’t read the books mentioned earlier. ::sigh:: More books for the TBR pile, I see.
Thanks for the kind words on the Night Guardians, Marilyn! I just read Raintree: Inferno, great book! But now of course there are two more that must go on my TBR pile. Sigh.
And yes, Stephanie Plum keeps drawing me back to find out what’s next? And which guy will it be in the end? Is there an end? LOL
I love them. Like you I don’t want the story to end and I want to know about the other characters in the book.
I have a lot of favorite connected books, some are;
Brenda Novaks Dundee Idaho series
Bertrice Small’s The World of Hetar
Janet Chapman’s Highlander & Logger series
Vicki Lewis Thompson’s Nerd books
Bronwyn Jameson’s Princes of the Outback
Karen Marie Moning’s Highlander series
Eloisa James’s Essex Sisters
Candace Hern’s The Ladies’ Fashionable Cabinet
and your Night Guardian books Linda
I have never read any series books with Indians with so much depth,I have enjoyed them a lot.
I enjoy connected stories with characters that I want to keep on reading more about.
Iris Johansens’s Eve Duncan series
Nevada Barr’s Anna Pigeon series
Sarah McCarty’s Promises series
Lora Leigh’s Men of August and Breeds series
Julie Garwood’s MacKenna’s and Buchanan’s stories
Johanna Lindsey’s Malory novels
Karin Slaughter’s Grant County series
Oh wow, Dena, you’ve got quite a list there! Some of my favorites too! (thanks for adding the Night Guardians) I always go back to Vicki’s Nerd books when I need to smile and feel better. And Bron’s Outback trilogy was fab! I’m going to have to hunt up Candice Hern’s series now. Sigh, more books for the ever growing TBR pile.
Some good series there, Christy H. Love the Eve Duncan books, and Julie Garwood’s old MacKenna’s are on my classic shelf.
One series of books that’s a must read, but then I always wish I hadn’t when I get nightmares are Kay Hooper’s Bishop/Special Crimes Unit (the FEAR series) Ohhh. Chilling, and scary fun.
I like to read connected stories then you can follow the characters further along from book to book. One of my favorites is the alaphabet series by Sue Grafton.
Oh, yeah, Teresa, I have always loved the Sue Grafton ‘alphabet’ books. I’m a big ‘cozy’ mystery fan too and have followed Lillian Jackson Braun’s The Cat Who books almost from the beginning.
One of my newest favorite connected stories are the Cindy Gerard Bodyguard books. Great fun and Cindy has been a favorite read since forever.
I enjoy connected books as long as they’re not redundant, constantly repeating what has transpired in the earlier books.
Favorites:
Susan Mallory’s Marcellis’ family
Sandra Marton’s The Barons family
Kathryn Shay- Figherfighters and cops series
Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton family
Jaclyn Redings’ “White” series
Brenda Joyce’s Deadly series
Victoria Alexander sister’s “The Lady in Question” and “The Pursuit of Marriage”
Christina Dodd’s -Governesses series
Janelle Denison’s “Wilde” family
Suzanne Brockmann’s SEALS
Sherilyn Kenyon’s BAD and DARKHUNTERS
Alison Kent’s SG-5
There are so many more that I’m forgetting!
I absolutley love connected stories, because you meet beloved characters again and see what happened after their own story ended. Plus you get the chance to see what happens with secondary characters that you loved.
Lots of good examples of connected books, Laurie G. I’ve read several of the ones you mentioned and loved them.
Hey Danny! Yeah, I’ve read several of Nora Roberts connected books (the old ones like the McGreggors and the witch books) and was always dying to know what happened to a favorite secondary character. That’s part of the reason I ended up writing six books in my Night Guardian series. All those secondary characters just needed their own stories!
